WORLD CHAMPIONS

45Champs

WOW!  The Green Bay Packers are World Champions.  Who would have thought that they would lose 3 starters and have half a dozen drops and still win.  I guess that is the that is how this entire season went for everyone.  Anyway, wanted to put up a note because I am excited as HECK!

Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy

How it feels to win the Super Bowl … “It feels awesome. It’s great to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.”

The key to victory … “We just kept battling. We had some adversity, we lost some guys to injury and we had some rough plays there. In the third quarter with the penalties our guys just kept fighting. I can’t say enough about them.”

On MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers .. “He played great. We put everything on his shoulders. He did a lot at the line of scrimmage for us against a great defense. He did a hell of a job.”

Green Bay quarterback and Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers

On playing better than in the NFC Championship, where the defense carried the packers … “It means we played better tonight. I struggled some in the last game. Guys made some plays tonight. I felt in a better rhythm. Mike (McCarthy) had a great flow to the game. Fun night.”

On joining the list of Super-Bowl-winning QBs … “It’s a dream come true. It’s what I dreamt about as a little kid watching Joe Montana and Steve Young, and we just won the Super Bowl.”

On the defense getting turnovers and stops .. “Defense was incredible tonight. They’ve been great all season, carrying us, getting us turnovers, scoring off turnovers. Unbelievable.”

On calling some audibles at the line… “It was just a special feeling knowing that Mike [McCarthy] trusted me enough to let me make the decisions there and make the plays. They’ve got a great front seven; tough to run against. Again, we felt like if we could pick them up, there were some lanes to throw. I just appreciated Mike and his trust in me to make the right decision.”

On winning the Lombardi Trophy… “Well, it’s named the Lombardi Trophy for a reason because we play and live in Title Town. We have the best fans, an organization that believes in us and gives us the opportunity to be successful, and I can’t wait to go home and see those fans and bring them the Lombardi Trophy.”

Packers corner Nick Collins

On scoring a touchdown… “I played high school running back, so I know what to do when the ball is in my hands. I made a couple moves to get into the endzone.”

On his emotions after the win … “A dream come true. It’s a dream come true.”

On his Pick-6 … “Oh man, that was the highlight of my day right there. I was able to read Big Ben and got a nice jump on the ball. I made a couple of cuts to get into the end zone.”

On overcoming the Steelers’ momentum … “We just kept our poise. This game is played for 60 minutes and that’s what we did. We played for 60 minutes tonight.”

On what this means for Green Bay … “We going back to Titletown baby. This is big. It’s coming back home. The Vince Lombardi trophy is coming back home.”

Wide receiver Jordy Nelson

On his first quarter touchdown … “It was just press (coverage). Aaron (Rodgers) game we a little signal if it was press to go deep. It was actually a screen play but he checked to a go route. That’s what we hit.”

On the momentum change after Rashard Mendenhall’s fumble … “It’s a game of momentum. We had it at the beginning. They came out in the second half and got it. That fumble was key. It got us some momentum back and we were able to make enough plays to win this game.”

On winning … “It’s unbelievable. It’s incredible.”

Wide receiver Greg Jennings

On what it feels like after all the Packers have been through … “To God be the glory. We’ve been a team that has overcome adversity all year, and now our head captain goes down. “(It was) emotional in the locker room. Our No. 1 receiver goes down. More emotions are flying in the locker room, but we find a way to bottle it up and exert it all out here on the field. To God be the glory.”

On his second touchdown … “It was a corner route. I had a corner route the entire time and they dropped me and let me run free the play before. They dropped me on another corner route and we came back to it and scored on that play.”

On Rodgers’ throw to him down the seam for 31 yards … “Huge. Outstanding throw by Aaron. (Troy) Polamalu makes a great play getting me down.. To God be the glory, that’s all I can say.”

On if he was shocked that he made the play … “Well, it just got over the top of his outstretched hands. They were in 55-two-man and it seemed like it brushed off the tip of Ike Taylor’s glove, but it just got over the top enough where I could make a play on it and here we are, Super Bowl Champions.”

On how it feels .. “It feels awesome. To God be the glory.”
